Training & Education

IPSAC delivers on-site workshops and conferences at Children’s Hospitals and Medical Universities across Vietnam, fostering hands-on learning and peer exchange among pediatric healthcare professionals.

To further advance professional development, we sponsor teams of clinicians from partner institutions to participate in clinical observerships at leading U.S. children’s hospitals and to attend international professional conferences. These experiences broaden exposure to global best practices and promote cross-border collaboration in pediatric surgical care.

Recognizing that quality emergency care is a hallmark of strong health systems, our signature training and education initiative — the Pediatric Acute Surgical Support (PASS) course — represents our comprehensive, horizontal approach to medical capacity building. PASS emphasizes the fundamentals of acute management for pediatric patients with life-threatening surgical emergencies, ranging from surgical sepsis to complex traumatic injuries.

Since its inception in 2017, PASS has been delivered throughout Vietnam and, in the past three years, expanded to the Middle East and East Africa (namely, Bahrain, Jordan, and Tanzania) through collaboration with Operation Child Life (OCL) and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCIS).

The PASS course is taught by a multidisciplinary international faculty and is designed for front-line healthcare providers from a range of specialties. It complements existing advanced resuscitation programs, such as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), by focusing on the surgical and systems-based aspects of acute pediatric care.

PASS employs a blended curriculum that integrates interactive learning, team-based exercises, and communication skills training. Through role-playing, scenario-based simulated trauma cases, and structured briefing and debriefing sessions, participants strengthen both technical and non-technical competencies essential to emergency response.

A key component of PASS is its train-the-trainer model, which builds local teaching capacity to ensure long-term program sustainability. We continuously monitor participant performance and satisfaction through outcome-based assessments, supporting continuous improvement and measurable impact on pediatric emergency care delivery.
